Generation Y

Generation Y is the generation born between 1980 and 2000, which grew up in a free world overflowing with possibilities. A world without boundaries.  This has led to a whole own work ethic, a mentality and a way of thinking that hardly matches with the current standards in corporate society. This is partly because of their parents, where they have gone from “hard work pays off” to “do something that makes you happy”. But also, for example, education, where young people have learned to work independently and be self-confident.

Unfortunately, this mentality of Generation Y often misaligns with the current way of working in the workplace. Young employees feel they need more challenge, are eagerly looking for recognition and appreciation and would like to be involved in the strategy and vision of the company. But on the other hand, they can also be overly self-assured, want everything way too fast and are prone to stress and burnout.
